Ebook About After tragedy strikes, can love blossom out of grief? As an emergency room doctor, 41-year-old Hadley Moore has spent a decade perfecting the art of shutting down her emotions to focus on saving lives. But when her younger sister and brother-in-law die tragically, the pain of loss is too great to ignore. Reeling from guilt over letting her family take a back seat to her career, Hadley seizes the opportunity to make things right by returning to her hometown to raise the infant son her sister left behind. At 29, Tyne Briggs knows firsthand how hard it is to grow up without a loving family. After being saved from a hostile foster home as a queer pre-teen, the young artist dotes on her large and boisterous adoptive family. When she loses her brother and sister-in-law in a car accident, her top priority is to make sure her baby nephew has the happy childhood she was denied.Shared grief and mutual attraction bring the two women together, where they find solace and passion in equal measure. But they are soon at odds when each decides she is the best choice to give baby Owen a permanent home. Without a will to guide them, and with the two aunts unable to reach a compromise, a lengthy custody battle looms.Cooperation and a common purpose could lead to true love and the creation of a new family together, but not if impulsive decisions and unsavory lawyers tear them apart first.Best-selling lesbian fiction author Miranda MacLeod has written a heartwarming and emotionally gripping medical age-gap romance that will convince you love conquers all.Book Hearts in Motion Review :
This story deals with real life feelings, doubts, thoughts, regrets and mostly about hope! Hadley lost a sister and Tyne lost a brother. They both wanted what was best for baby Owen who was left behind. It is an age gap but certainly not the "ice queen" I expected. In fact, my favorite character was Hadley who had been so immersed in being a doctor that she kind of let her family and her own life take second place but was still such a good and caring person. Tyne was just so darn sweet and cute and lovable. Of course, this is a romance and the story definitely reflects that. I liked how the two of them were working on one goal and that was to take care of Owen properly. Their main problem was lack of communication and more lack of communication. That was neither of their fine points. It brought home the importance of family in all of our lives. This was a beautifully and wonderfully told story and will go onto my re-read list. Miranda MacLeod, you never disappoint in any of your books but this one may just be your best one yet! Thank you for writing it. I feel terrible about this, because it’s going to sound harsh.. and it is. I wasn’t impressed by this book at all. I was super excited to read it based on the description. It sounded right up my alley. Based on the description you’d think there would be some heavy angst, some gut wrenching scenes, sweeping and steamy romantic moments, great conflict between the characters, etc. but there just wasn’t. It was all very tepid. Lukewarm throughout. Every conflict or challenge (and there was only one really, although there was potential for a LOT more) was solved super fast and could have been resolved by just talking it out. I get that it happens in a lot of good books (Pride and Prejudice is a personal favorite), but they had every reason TO talk. They were in a romantic relationship, living together, taking care of family together, and talked quite a bit about what a good team they were. They live together and start a relationship and at no point do they even talk about what happens when Hadley moves away or when custody is awarded to one of them. It just didn’t make sense. The dialogue was meh, too. This book dealt with some really heavy topics and the dialogue between everyone was, again, lackluster. Almost gitchy, like it’s trying to be cute and funny, but it just ends up saccharine and unrealistic and totally not in alignment with what the themes in the book would have suggested. I kept thinking, who would ever say that, it sounds fake. Also, character development is a huge factor for me in books and I just didn’t feel like there was any. Well, maybe a bit for Hadley, but none at all for Tyne. She was the same perfect (which also bugs me) character throughout the whole book. I mean she’s a lesbian who grew up in foster care for crying out loud. Develop that a bit. Give her some flaws, failed relationships, obstacles to overcome. So much potential for a deep, real character. It was just all glossed over in a few paragraphs. The sex scenes were trite, as well. No build up, no yearning or denying urges, no small touches or looks or close calls that heat things up before the Big Bang. I mean if there were they obviously weren’t memorable. Nothing unique and exciting. I love a good slow burn or even an out of control fire and this just wasn’t at all, which is confusing given their circumstances. About a quarter of the way through the book I wanted to stop but pushed myself to finish and I’m glad I did because I know I didn’t miss anything. There is so much potential for great content; age gap, rich girl/poor girl, the death of two major family members, the health of the grandparents, a mentally disabled brother, a custody battle, etc. All things that drew me to the book initially and all things that were kind of glossed over in the storytelling. Maybe it was just too much going on all at once to really focus on anything really well. It just wasn’t executed well, unfortunately. It’s a reminder to myself not to buy a book on Amazon if they don’t offer a sample.
